James T. Fields — 9 Sep. 1861
To JAMES T. FIELDS
September 9, [1861], Wheeling
Mr. Fields
I am afraid I am going to worry you but I want advice, and have no one to ask but you. Would it not be good for me to next year if I could contribute occasionally to some English magazine? Even if you still wish me to write for you I have much time unemployed. Do not think me vain:—if I can please you and your readers, why not nos cousins []?
Can you (if you think it a good plan) give me the address of any English magazine where I would probably succeed? And how shall I go about it? Send them an article, or refer to anything I have written? I acknowledge I know nothing of the etiquette between authors and publishers. You see, I trust largely to your kindness for counsel.
Very respectfully,
Rebecca Harding
