James T. Fields — 16 May 1864

To JAMES T. FIELDS? May 14, [1864], Philadelphia

(Labeled May 16—may be typo)

My dear friend

Many thanks for your trouble in returning the ms.[1] I know it was not usual to ask, but I had no copy & wanted it. I forgot the stamps too—before—How hot it is—I am writing you a short story of the same[?] laid here, and I’m afraid it will be feverish in spite of me—The thermometer was at 90 one day this week—Kindest regards from me & mine to you and yours—

Sincerely

R. H. Davis
