James T. Fields — 14 Feb. 1862
To JAMES T. FIELDS
February 14, 1862, Wheeling
Mr Fields
Do women ever change their minds? You offered to advance me some money on ‘Margret’ and I declined, but this morning I would see my way clearer through some accounts if I could ask you for an advance of $100. Not on ‘Margret’ for I suppose it would take a long time to make that up, but I have another story begun that I hope you will like, and will send you war stories ad-infinitum until I am clear of debt. That I speak so frankly to you shows how entirely I depend on your kindness and friendship.
Many thanks for the early copies. I am awaiting them impatiently, keeping the house in a turmoil with looking out like “Sister Ann” to “see if there is anything coming.” [1]
Always your friend,
R.B.H.
