Annie Adams Fields — 28 Jun. 1862
To ANNIE ADAMS FIELDS
June 28, [1862], New York City
Dear Annie
I know I am a dumb creature in a way, and not able to show even by looks how well I know that you are good and kind. So I send a ‘familiar spirit’ to speak for me:—may it? If its way is drearier than your happy life accepts—never mind—you will call it mine all the more, I suppose—and think of the faults you blame in me.
Yours always
R. B. H.
Remember me to Mr. Fields.
